Hello fabulous fruits!
Sorry we’ve been a bit quiet during the pandemic. We all needed to focus on different things during that time. We did a few digital performances here and there, but mostly we just had more of a think about what Dragged Around London means to us.
And one of the big things that we prioritise at DAL is inclusivity. We believe drag is a sparkly array of precious gems that come in all shapes, sizes, colours, and types. Drag is an art, and we don’t believe in gatekeeping what that art entails.
So we’ve rebranded with the new logo you can see on this site (which is also all shiny and new this year!) that moves away from the femme-focused high-heel and instead draws on the symbol of the crown – because no matter what gender identity we have, drag performers are all royalty.
We’ve also chosen to include not only the 6 colours of the Pride flag, but also the black, brown, pink, light blue, and white stripes of the inclusive pride flag.
The black and brown are to highlight that even within our community, systems of racism continue to skew advantage towards those with white skin and work needs to be done about it.
The pink, light blue, and white stripes are the colours of the Trans flag, and represent the fact that within the LGBTQIA+ community, the T are being left out and, in many cases, being actively discriminated against – from our own! We stand in steadfast support of our trans siblings who, in fact, we have to thank for birthing this wonderful art form of drag that we now enjoy freely. Not to mention that it was trans people of colour who sparked the Stonewall riots, which most agree was a turning point for the civil rights of all LGBTQIA+ people.
We hope you like our new outfit, compliments are always very welcome!
We’ve also completely re-done this whole website so if you haven’t checked it out in the last few months, please do go on a little clicking spree for us. There are still lots of bits and pieces we still want to add but we’re hoping that this makes it easier to find the different experiences we offer, as well as showcase our little family of performers a bit better.
Keep your eyes out for our updates over the next few weeks (go on, sign up to the mailing list in the form right down in the bottom right of the page!), we’re now getting back into the swing of things and we’ve got a few new products brewing too…
Hopefully we get to see you out there for some fun, fruity, fabulous fun in the sun soon!
Love,
Maneeta, Dolores, and Eyvana
